Kiwi carols
Here are a couple of specially adapted carols we heard in Christchurch. Te Harinui (great joy*) was belted out by the whole crowd at the prom style carol singing in the park.
The other is based on “On Christmas night all Christians sing”. We heard it sung by the all male cathedral choir, in full robes, in the ‘temporary’ cardboard cathedral.
Shepherds have become musterers (cattle or sheep herders)
Rata and Pohutukawa are Christmas red flowering trees with strong Maori connotations
The Pointers are bright stars visible next to the Southern Cross.
Te Harinui to everyone !
*Te HarAnui apparently means ‘big mistake’ !
